Friends of Mandritsara

Vicky Hopley’s Focus on Madagascar January 2018

Retreat and Home Assignment
I have had a really good chunk of time away from Mandritsara since my last prayer letter. Our team retreat was a lovely time of refreshment and a really good start to my break. The temperature change was quite dramatic, from Mahajanga at forty degrees to landing at Heathrow where the temperature was one degree. During my whole stay in the UK, the temperature didn’t rise above six degrees and we had snow on three different occasions. Despite the cold, I was very appreciative of rest, relaxation, time with family, friends and church. I am also grateful to God for his hand of protection and timing. Two days before I left Madagascar, I noticed that something wasn’t quite right with the vision in my right eye. Thankfully I was referred urgently to see an ophthalmologist, a former colleague at Sunderland eye infirmary. He confirmed that I had a very small hole in my retina and was able to treat it with a laser, to stick it and the surrounding area safely back down so that I wouldn’t have any further problems in Madagascar….
