Vicky Hopley’s Focus on Madagascar: December 2018

A Hot Christmas: when you have grown up in Europe, you can’t help but associate Christmas with the cold, so being in Mandritsara during the Christmas period doesn’t “feel” Christmassy. However, it means that there are no distractions from the real meaning of Christmas and the celebrations that take place are really lovely. The hospital Christmas celebration consisted of an afternoon sitting out in the sun with each department performing a ten minute “act”. We had
some fantastic dance routines, some western, some Tsimihety, all with a Christmas theme. We had some beautiful songs, gorgeous outfits and even faces painted. There are only three of us in the eye department at the moment, so we teamed up with the pharmacy and the lab and performed a nativity. The star performer was the goat, who entered with the shepherds and was very well behaved!…
