Mat and Katy, with Phoebe and Jonah, joined the team in Mandritsara in July 2009 after five months of language study in Tana. They have three children, Phoebe, Jonah and Barney (who was the fifth baby to be born at the maternity unit at HVM, in September 2011. Mat and Katy previously worked at HVM in 2003-4. They are from Sutton Bonington, near Nottingham in the UK and are serving in Madagascar with AIM International. Click here for their personal page on the AIM website.
Mat is involved in the training of village church group leaders. Alongside Pastor Julien (the pastor of the Baptist church in Mandritsara), he organises and teaches at the bi-annual residential training for village church leaders. He is also the missionary team leader and is a member of the hospital management committee.
Katy is a GP and works part-time in the hospital (when she is not full-time due the shortage of doctors). Katy is also developing an internship program to provide junior Malagasy doctors with further training and practical experience, while benefiting HVM and its patients.
Phoebe, Jonah and Barney are pupils at the Good News School (Ecole Bonne Nouvelle) in Mandritsara. In the afternoons Phoebe and Jonah attend the home-schooling English classes with the other older missionary children. They greatly enjoy the tree house in their garden built in early 2013 by the missionary dads and granddads, and playing dodge ball on the small football patch.
