We are a multi-agency missionary team serving at the Good News Hospital in Mandritsara, northern Madagascar, working alongside Malagasy Christians, in partnership with the Bible Baptist Churches of Madagascar. The project comprises a hospital (including a community health team and a school of nursing and midwifery), a school, radio station and village outreach.
We are praying for a midwife to join the Friends of Mandritsara missionary team. We are seeking a midwife who is an evangelical Christian and who wants to join us in this gospel outreach and church-planting ministry. Ideally you will be able to stay long-term, but short-term assignments of at least three months would also be considered.
The role will include:
- Supporting the maternity team (currently 7 midwives and 6 HCAs) professionally and spiritually, ensuring continued quality of care
- Teaching at the school of nursing and midwifery (ESFI)
- Mentoring nursing and midwifery students during placements.
You will need to speak, read and write French well, as this is the medical language of the hospital. Also some previous experience of a mission hospital environment (even if only during an elective) would be an advantage, but this is not necessary. You will receive some Malagasy language training as part of your time in Mandritsara, with the aim that in time you could work without a local translator. This is not a paid role; you will need to raise your own support for your flights and stay in Mandritsara.
If you are not able to go yourself, please pass this advert on to someone who may be able to go.
