Teacher/Tutor Opportunity in Madagascar

Amis de Mandritsara is a multi-agency missionary team serving at the Good News Hospital in
Mandritsara, northern Madagascar, working alongside Malagasy Christians, in partnership with the Bible Baptist Church of Madagascar. The project mainly comprises a hospital, school and a radio station.

We are looking for a teacher / tutor to work mainly with our British KS3 aged pupils, for the academic year 2018-2019. The role would include teaching Maths, Science and some other subjects at KS3 to individuals or small groups of children, using a mixture of resources potentially including online courses based on the English National Curriculum.

There would be scope for teaching other subjects to children of various ages to complement the existing provision from a primary-trained teacher and the childrens’ parents. Furthermore, there would be opportunities to learn Malagasy and get involved with the wider project and church, according to gifts and time available.

The committed Evangelical Christian teacher / tutor should:

• Have strengths in Maths/Science
• Enjoy working with children and young people
• Have experience of teaching and/or supporting small groups and individual pupils of
secondary school age
• Be ready to work in partnership with other teachers and parents, under the
supervision/leadership of the long term teacher and the Amis de Mandritsara team leader
• Be able to live independently in a compound situation
• Share our team vision and values
• Be ready to serve for at least one academic year
• Be English-speaking, but ideally able to communicate in French as this is the working language of the hospital and project administration.
• Be flexible!

This position is non-salaried. Like the other missionaries on the team, this person would need to raise their own financial support to cover travel, accommodation and other living costs. We would expect the person to come with the support of their church and acceptance by a recognized mission agency.

Generally it takes three to four months to go through the paperwork: DBS check, work permit application and obtaining a visa. Please allow for this when planning your time in Mandritsara.

If you are not able to go yourself, please pass this advert on to someone who may be able to go.
