Addendum 1: Rasoa's story is fictional - but it something similar happens about once a week at our hospital - the Good News Hospital in Mandritsara. Pregnant women are brought to the hospital with eclampsia, obstructed labour or other illnesses. From far away, usually on foot. We can help most of them. Unfortunately not all. Madagascar has one of the highest infant and maternal mortality rates in the world. Pregnant women and their unborn or newly born children die time and again in our country too. This hurts the heart, because at home 99 percent of them would survive.
